We have a tendency of drafting big guys that take a few years to show their true ability (ie. Mitch Clark!)

one thing I said earlier is that Hendo has no place in our side over the next few seasons whilst the 3 ruckman are fit...and with fev, bradshaw, & brown in the same team he definately had no place...this isn't to say he wouldn't be a good player down the track. It does however say alot about his future at the lions after his contract contract regardless of the fev deal.

Hendo would have known he faced playing alot of sunnycoast games whilst the rest of his draft class will start cracking 50+ games. Hence whay he put his name up for trade.

Default Lachie just wanted a Guernsey

Quote:
OR Lachie Henderson, moving back to Victoria last week as part of the Brendan Fevola trade was all about opportunity. Once 19-year-old Henderson knew Brisbane had commited to Fevola, he realised his chances of getting a regular game with the Lions would be slim.

So he and his manager, Ricky Nixon, acted quickly.

"The chance of something happening first came up last Wednesday," said Henderson, who originally hailed from Birregurra, near Colac.

"I started talking about it with Ricky; in fact, we both sort of raised it, and saw the opportunities with Carlton.

"I'm pretty good friends with Michael Rischitelli and Daniel Bradshaw, and certainly didn't think Michael would leave, because he has his life in Brisbane.

"Once they decided not to move, Ricky pushed it from there. Brisbane didn't put me up for it but I spoke to Vossy (coach Michael Voss) on Thursday night and then again on Friday morning after the decision was made.

"He said they didn't want to lose me but it was my choice and he would understand either way. So from there it came down purely to opportunity.

"When I first heard about bringing Fev up north, I knew it would put me out for a couple of years.

"From there Ricky pushed it and was fantastic."

For the record, 197cm tall Henderson was taken with pick eight in the 2007 National Draft.

In two seasons he has managed 15 games, about what would be expected of a developing centre half-forward.

But it has been in defence where his best two games have been played, lining up on Hawk Jarryd Roughead and North Melbourne's David Hale this year.

Henderson doesn't suggest he will be an overnight sensation or attract anywhere near the same amount of headlines Fevola does.
"That was one of the good things about the trade because it was all about Fev and nobody really heard my name," said Henderson, who was a year above Western Bulldogs' Ayce Cordy at Geelong College.

"I can promise I will be trying. My marking is all right and I get across the ground OK but I need to work on my repeat efforts."

The chance to come back to Victoria was a big factor for a young man who never wanted to leave his home state in the first place, although for Henderson Brisbane was the best option of the interstate teams.

Now he's back, there will be more time for golf (he plays off seven) with his dad and hopefully the chance to work somewhere in the golfing industry.

Plus, get a few kicks with Carlton - but definitely not in guernsey No. 25.

Default Big wraps on 'New Blue'

Quote:
LACHIE Henderson was home with his parents last week after having his tonsils removed.
The procedure is not a big deal for most teenagers, but after living far from home for the past two years, he viewed it as a luxury.
Henderson, from Birregurra, landed at Carlton from the Brisbane Lions in the trade for Brendan Fevola last month.
"It is really good to be home," he said.
"I'm from a little country town near Geelong, but I did a lot in Geelong.
"I went home for about three or four days when I had my tonsils out and Mum looked after me like she always does."
It has been a whirlwind six weeks since Henderson's manager, Ricky Nixon, instigated the deal. The former Geelong Falcon can't wait to wear his new navy blue colours.
"I really did love Brisbane, but the opportunity of coming down here and having a spot to play was the main thing," he said.
"And in two days it all happened. My manager rang me up and said you're coming down. He reported back to me what was going on, and it's all starting to come into plan now."
Henderson joined his new teammates at training this week and has already formed a bond with ruckman Matthew Kreuzer, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft. He has chosen jumper No. 23. He was keen to steer clear of Fevola's No. 25.
"There was never a chance," Henderson said.
"There is an opportunity there, but I don't really mind where I get a game. I was a forward as a junior, but it's more just about getting a kick."
If you turn back the clock two years, Carlton has acquired a gem. The 197cm Henderson went to Brisbane via pick eight, in a star-studded draft that included Cyril Rioli at No. 12, Callan Ward at 19 and Tayte Pears at 23.
Later, this was the appraisal from Lions football manager Graeme Allan: "We rated Henderson at four. Mick Turner (Geelong Falcons' manager) told me that he would be a marquee player and captain of the club one day."
Nixon agrees, likening some of Henderson's attributes to Saints skipper Nick Riewoldt.
"He is that type of leadership person," Nixon said.
"He's what I call a millimetre man. He cuts the fat off a steak, runs that extra yard and takes pride in whatever he does.
"People at Carlton might be saying who's this kid, but he hasn't played there yet. It was unusual circumstances, because he was happy to stay at Brisbane, but now he's gone to a powerful club and it's exciting he'll play at the MCG and in front of big crowds.
"He broke his leg when he was 16 or 17, so he went from a possible No. 1 pick to lower in the order. Carlton is looking for sustained success, so it's a good move for both parties."
Henderson made his debut in Round 2 last year, and this year the Lions experimented by playing him back. His best two games were in defence, lining up on Hawk Jarryd Roughead and the Kangaroos' David Hale.
He hasn't yet spoken at any length with coach Brett Ratten, but no doubt he will figure heavily in the club's plans.
"We had a chat the Friday of trade week and he didn't really say anything about me, more about where Carlton is and where it's trying to go," Henderson said.
"Hopefully, I'll train properly next week and get into skills next week. I'm just getting myself back into it and I'll be trying really hard."

Reckon we will go another tall in this draft due to Lachie's departure. When Brown and Fev go, we'll only have AC to fill in the FF spot and need another CHF.

Browny was taken Pick 30...we've got 27...and it's quite easy to see the natural talent of a future Power Forward from a young age...we should take a punt on Mitch Thorp.
