Taken as Draft Pick 41 in the 2008 National Draft

NUMBER: 18
HEIGHT: 182cm
WEIGHT: 75kg
DEBUT: n/a
D.O.B: 28/06/90
RECRUITED FROM: Swan Districts (WA)

Introduction
Todd Banfield was recruited from Swan Districts in Western Australia as a quick and aggressive medium-sized midfielder who has the ability to win the ball at contested situations.

Background
• Banfield spent the bulk of his junior football days playing with Swan Districts in Western Australia.

• His impressive form with the Swan Districts Colts (U18) side during the first half of the 2008 season earned him a spot in the senior team for the remainder of the year including finals. He made an immediate impact with his speed, incredible work ethic and defensive pressure.

• Despite playing only half the season with the premiership-winning Colts side, he still earned selection in the 2008 WAFL U18 Team of the Year and finished equal 9th in the Jack Clarke Medal for the Best & Fairest player in the WAFL Colts competition.

• A noted ‘speed demon’, Banfield recorded an impressive 2.87 second run over 20m at a state screening session in Western Australia prior to the 2008 Draft.

• He was drafted by the Brisbane Lions with selection No.41 in the 2008 National Draft.
2009
• Banfield showed plenty of promise during his first pre-season with the Lions and was particularly busy during the Intra-Club match.

• His impressive pre-season form was halted however when he broke his hand which kept him sidelined for the Club's entire NAB Cup campaign.

• The West Australian eventually returned to the Lions Reserves side where he displayed his speed and tenacity for the remainder of the season.

• Although he wasn't able to crack a senior berth in his debut season, he certainly took great strides in his development for the future.

Radio said he was the first real 'smokey' picked. Why do we have to be the club that takes the smokeys? lol

Supposed to be quick.

Matches what we need, speed, wins hard ball and has good foot skills. I reckon Vossy has planned to use some of these quick medium midfielders we've picked up, up forward.

Takin from this weeks OohAah Ash McGarth:D

Out of all the players at the Lions, who do you think would be the best arm-wrestler?
Dan from Ormeau (Queensland)

That’s a tough question. Browny, Braddy and Rog are probably all about the same. They all have their different strengths so it’s hard to separate them. Personally, I wouldn’t want to get thrown around by any of those guys.

As for the best arm-wrestler, that would hands down have to be Todd Banfield. He would probably win because he would put the other person off just with the look of his head

LOL dead set cracker :D:D:D

Haha, that makes me think that Banfield has settled in well and the others get along with him.

Wouldn't mind seeing him on the field... supposed to be quick, yeah?

Well yesterday I was lucky enough to catch the third quarter of the Lions Sharks game from last week this guy impressed me along with TeeRock and Spacka they had very good third quarters along with Magnet Hendo and TeeJay............Harding had one goal missed another two and Turned it over a few times his third quarter was average any way Banfeild will be a player just neds to bulk up alittle and we got a Hidden Gem here I think Stumps Redden Banfeild and TeeRock will all play aleast 100 games each bloody good drafting this year.

This is sounding great, Jedda. If we've hit the target with most of our picks last year, we've got a bright future. So important to make the most of last years draft, and we have achieved at least a large part that just by getting Rich.

I hope he gets some games next year... I guess he has to take over the role I wanted for King...

Could he be used as a crumber?

b_lions16

Apparently he has very good pace and could be a crumber, more like a speedy midfielder tho, can fit in the HF Role, too. ;)
Very easy to spot, BTW. :D

It's been a lazy 12 months for Todd.. if only he had the commitment to get into the gym & do some work, we could have a gun on our hands..

It's insane how much he's grown in 12 months. If he maintains his pace with that bulk on he's gonna be a dead set weapon. Watched him very closely in the ressies this year. Definitely see him being a hundred+ game player.

The Baron has bulked up alot................ there were big wraps on this guy when he came to us from W.A.He is in a very long line to get a midfeild spot ATM but he now has the body to play senior footy only seen him play a couple of games 1 in which he was a turnover machine and 1 where he was on fire time will tell should see between 1 and 5 senior games next year if he keeps improving and he has some luck.
